Buyers Intelligence Group (BIG) , a business merchandising consulting group, was started in 2000 by Abe Sherman, CEO. The company began as a buying group with a focus on sales and inventory analysis and differentiated itself by building merchandise programs for independent retail jewelers. In 2007 the company launched Balance to Buy™, an online interactive merchandising system that has changed the way retailers analyze and plan their merchandise mix. Balance to Buy™ was the first system of its kind that operated in the “cloud”, whereas the data is accessed 24/7 from wherever the client has an Internet connection. BIG’s business merchandising consulting became ever more sought by our clients, so in 2010, Plexus Performance Groups was launched. Plexus Groups are executive management groups facilitated by BIG staff and industry veterans. Their semi-annual onsite meetings are not ‘critiques’ but studies in opportunities for the host jeweler and group members. Data aggregation and benchmarking is a part of each group using Balance to Buy™ to compare data. BIG’s technology has advanced in two additional directions in 2010. First is an interface built to share data between Balance to Buy™ and the jeweler’s POS system. The second is BIG’s Virtual Showroom where suppliers upload images of their inventory, collections and assortments onto the BIG website which is accessible to BIG and Balance to Buy™ clients. Clients identifying their inventory needs will be able to shop for merchandise on the BIG website, combining the analysis and ordering process. The company produces a newsletter, BIG Times with insights and pithy comments regarding the industry, consumer behavior, merchandising and inventory analysis. BIG team members have spoken at numerous trade shows and buying groups and appear as regular guests on JCK Webinars. |
